Family-Directed Home Funeral

In New England, family directed home funerals are safe, legal, ecological and inexpensive. Home based death care allows family and friends to participate in the transition and say goodbye in a familiar and natural setting in their own way and time.  This intimate and personal process is a profound final expression of care.

Threshold Care is available to assist in all aspects of creating a thoughtful, supportive environment and ceremony reflecting a loved one’s cultural and personal beliefs:

  • Support with ritual bathing and anointing

  • Guidance in preparing and preserving the body to lie in honor

  • Assist in creating or locating a casket, urn, or plaque for purchase

  • Assist in finding local resources for music, rituals, flowers

  • Support transport of body and associated paperwork

Testimonials

"...And so I return to my life's 'circus' with my heart full and my soul at peace. Being such an intimate and personal part of Rick's passing and send off with love and a smile, and music will forever remain one of my life's dearest experiences. I am privileged to been there, to have met and talked to you each, to have been given the gift of closure, and to have Rick close to my heart and in my mind, along with the mental pictures of each of you, singing in the street, talking of his life, sharing in the loss, communing with our lives. My friend Rick is now plural, as I cannot think of him, without including all of you. When I put him down, I picked you up. Thank you for that." - Michael Perry

Jackie Davis addressed her Unitarian Universalist congregation with the inspiring story of her husband's home death and funeral, which was supported by Deana Darby.                       Read the PDF version here.
